Veteran’s Service Agency

Our agency is dedicated to providing the highest quality service to veterans and their families in Greene County.

We fall under the oversight of the Department of Human Services.

  • Educate Veterans and their families about the benefits they have earned;
  • Represent and guide Veterans in obtaining benefits and services both through the VA and other local agencies;
  • Make Veterans an economic force in education, employment and business development.

Hours
We are open Monday through Friday from 08:00 – 16:00.  We do generally close for lunch from 12:00 – 13:00; however, this time may vary based on the needs of our clients and staff.  We highly recommend calling ahead for walk in services.  As with all county agencies, we are closed all federal holidays and Election Day.

    The Director and staff are accredited, caring, and knowledgeable veteran service officers; as such, they are able to guide veterans and their families in submitting claims to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

    Greene County Veteran Service Officers will help you navigate the bureaucracy of the VA, and our services are free. We will help with gathering the information necessary to support a claim, file the claim, and track the claim through the VA system. We can also assist with filing appeals for denied claims. Our expertise can help you avoid the pitfalls and delays that missing paperwork or improperly filled out claim forms can cause.

    How Do I Get a Copy of my DD 214 or Discharge/Separation Papers?

    • Did you file it with your County, City, or Town Clerk when you separated? If so, you can obtain a certified copy from that office.
    • Did you file it with your local or state Veterans Service Agency? If so, we can provide you with a standard copy, or assist you in requesting a copy from another City, County or State Veterans agency.
    • If you lost your DD 214, and never filed it with a local agency, you must complete the standard form, SF 180. You can download a copy of that form from here: GSA.gov/reference/forms/request-pertaining-to-military-records
    • If you need assistance with your SF 180, you do not need an appointment with a counsellor, simply come in to the office during normal business hours and any of our staff can assist you.
